Dear Family & Friends,
Welcome to our story!!! April 15th was the day the roller coaster took off, and whats follows is the story of how we're enjoying and surviving one heck of a bumpy ride.
How this story began...
Back in October of last year, Gregg and I were feeling the need to flee our tiny apartment in the hopes of growing into a Philadelphia historic home.
Our house hunting explorations lead us to look at over sixty homes in four neighborhoods (one of which, Bella Vista, should be named fake flowers) over a sixth-month period. We went through two real estate agents, two houses under contract that fell through, two full home inspections and countless hours spent searching for our perfect home.
At last! On a Sunday morning, February 21st, our realtor, Tom Englett and I went out on a routine house showing tour, and the last stop was 4726 Springfield. The corner house was tucked under two feet of snow but still spewed curb appeal through it's architectural splendor. After a brief exploration of the first floor, we wondered upstairs to come upon the great room. I was awe-struck by a large (I mean seriously large) Edwardian living room with a massive fireplace and structural elements galore. I immediately called Gregg and begged him to come look at the house NOW. Later that week we had placed an offer, and over the next two months had so many back and forth negotiations it made our heads spin.
Cut to the afternoon of Tax Day, we met at City Space with Tom (not only a fantastic realtor but also our sanity keeper), Melanie (the cookoo-for-cocoa-puffs selling agent), Bruce (the boring-as-a-wet-rag executor) and David Bane (our unconventional-yet-surprisingly-dapper closing lawyer). After autographing a milieu of paperwork, the deal was done. The surprisingly smooth transaction left us broke but excited, for we now owned 4726 Springfield!
