New in the Midst of Old

Another weekend with Danny back and we're taking <new> steps to renovating this money pit :)

So you're asking yourself, what could these crazy kids accomplish in one short work day? In a house full of a lot of old stuff, we are putting a modern and in some places, much needed new spin on the place. With that, meet the new changes!

New Stairs
When we decided to remove the ridiculous hidden basement access from the powder room, the boys ripped up the old access and we uncovered some old, not properly supported 120-year-old stairs. It didn't take them long to say buh bye old stairs and Danny dilligently jacked up the floor and installed the prefabricated stairs (made by John's Custom Stairs).
Q: What was the best part of the new stairs project? (answer at the end of this post)
the old ones...
That smile says "I love installing stairs"
beams to support the jacked up level landing
Viola!

New Vanity
When I pick out products to install, I don't exactly understand the plumbing or installation complications of my choices. With this vanity and sink combo, I learned (through Danny bitching) that one-piece vanities are a pain in the hump when installing the faucet since you can't take off the top and get to pipes easily. <oops>  After a few tries and a slightly seared arm, we have a beautiful vanity and faucet combo.

Angry Danny struggling with limited access to pipes
beautiful finished product!

New Floor (well, almost!)
The new breakfast room and powder room floor is made up of 5 steps and with three complete, we're well on our way!
1. Break up and remove tile
2. Break up and remove cement level set
Gregg does great job at removing so many large nails
sweat equity at its finest (literally)
layers upon layers of floor to remove
3. Buy new floor > we got Brazilian Teak wide planks to match the kitchen from Lumber Liquidators
4. Quick level floor
5. Install new floor

New Vents
So this one doesn't really belong since the new vents have been going on for months, but thought I'd showcase the newest one. This one ensures we stay toasty warm and comfortably cool in our future powder room.

(from beginning of post)
A: The best part of the new stair project was hearing Gregg yell and scream as he struggled to get up the old stairs to get out of basement before new stairs were built. After we all had a laugh, Chris laid out a ladder so he could climb his way out. Brilliant!
