As If We Don't Have Enough Projects

Have I already mentioned to you that Gregg and I are insane? Well Gregg more than I... but both of us can definitely be considered certifiable with this latest project. As if it wasn't enough to commit to a very long and involved month of attic renovations and television antics, my wonderful better half decided it was about time to jump into yet another project. So what's this next adventure all about?

The Motivation
So while everyone thinks it's a bad idea to push forward with more renovation while our first floor is not even yet completed, the idea behind this push is to finalize 'the mess.' The mess consists of dust, trash, more dust, and any other destruction caused by demolition and then rebuilding spaces. While our first floor (mainly breakfast room and powder room - see details here) are not yet complete, all of the walls are finalized and demolition is complete. Once this project is done, we will only have the master suite to attack and that's a few years away.

The Location
On our third (of four) floors, we have two bedrooms and a bathroom which will eventually become the master suite as well as a sewing room (so named by servant bells) and a junior suite with a small full bathroom.

Sewing room (pre move-in)

The Layout
Existing Layout
Currently, the sewing room is a narrow room, sufficient for crafting but due to only having one window which is blocked by a massive oak tree, it's dark and small. Next door in the bedroom, a triangular closet offers no more storage than what you can hang on a few hooks. Lastly, the horrid 1960s, poor example of do-it-yourself-work bathroom. Not only is the tile hideous and cracked but the shower is so small you bump your elbows on the walls when shampooing your hair, not to mention what happens when we try to share time in there (not pretty). The vanity is original so has to water outputs, hot and cold, which make Gregg's morning shaving experience more of a talent than a routine.
Planned New Layout
The new layout will open up the wall between the sewing room and the bedroom thus adding light to both spaces and making it usable space. By getting rid of the current entrance to the bedroom, that space will be leveraged into a small walk-in closet with a matching full closet across. Through the closet area will be the redesigned bathroom with DOUBLE the shower space.

Inspiration Behind The Design
White Tile Chair Rail Height

Glass Tile Corner Accent - BRILLIANT!

The Design
Milano White Porcelain tiles will line the walls half-height in the bathroom and to the ceiling (and maybe even ceiling) in the shower. The bathroom floor will have a mid-tone grey textured tile. The shower flower will have a neutral river rock base. The metals will be mixed with the sconces and ceiling lights in a burnt bronze metallic and the shower fixtures and rest of bath accessories all chrome. The vanity and linen cabinet are antique oak and the vanity top black granite.

Is It Done Yet?
They say half the work is planning and I'd believe it because this rush design job almost killed me but I think the new space will be truly awesome at the end of the day. Stay tuned for demolition woes, building progress, and hopefully in not too much time, photos of the beautifully finished space.
