Because One Project Is Never Enough

As you followed our journey through restoration ups and downs (emphasis more on the downs), you have probably already realized that my husband-to-be, Gregg, is down right crazy. In this week's update, I will give you FOUR reasons why.

Reason #1 - Finishing Up The Attic
Despite the television show being done (more photos of completed tv-ready attic to come later this week), there still remains a punch-list of items that were not noticed for the final camera shots but need to get done before we can move in. While some of these seem super minor, the production company and contractors are on the line to finish so Gregg has to track them, with regular follows-up, to ensure completion.

furniture and carpets pushed to the side to avoid damage

Yay spackling spots!
Yay sanding spackle dust!!
The Punch-List
  1. Fix general drywall uneven/missing
  2. Painting (they missed a bunch of spots)
  3. Fix brick wall that's over-saturated (painting a wall white ≠ whitewash)
  4. Cable hookups (the brand new flat screen just sits there looking pretty now)
  5. Door to bathroom hinge - doesn't close completely
  6. Lock to bathroom (uh, duh!)
  7. Silicone caulking missing in bathroom
  8. Water protection to wood beams in bathroom (so it doesn't rot)
  9. Bath tile sealed
  10. Paint and stain stair trim
  11. Install stair rail
  12. Close building permits

Reason #2 - New Roof White Rubber Coating
A more minor project in comparison to most we take on but STILL ANOTHER PROJECT. This one came about as we were discussing the need for insulation in the attic and the option of ripping up the roof and insulting was given as an alternative. John, the GC for this project, suggested a compromise of full insulation inside the room as well as a white rubber coat to the existing roof to help reflect heat off the surface. After some initial research (see below for more details) we agreed to this new work.

Before - no coating (but notice new fancy solatubes)

What are the benefits of white roof coatings?
  • White roof coatings provide three key attributes as part of a roofing system:
  • The ability to help shed water and keep interiors dry
  • The ability to help reduce cooling costs for buildings with A/C units, and to help reduce interior temperatures on buildings with no cooling units.
  • The ability to protect and prolong the roof system life cycle by reducing the “thermal shock” stress associated with large temperature changes.

Reason #3 - The 3rd Floor Junior Suite
Stay tuned later this week for more on how the junior suite is progressing (no more dead chickens hopefully!!) and reason #4 why Gregg is crazy (the photo before and after are CRAZY).
