And Gregg Said, Let There Be Light!

Good Riddance Temporary Bulbs
Let there be light indeed! Between this past Friday and Saturday, we saw progress in the form of lighting fixtures and you won't believe the difference it makes. After living with hanging temporary light bulbs (see below)
Boo annoying temporary lights EVERYWHERE!
for the past eight months to a year and a half, we are VERY excited to have some real fixtures.

The Dining Room & The Missing Piece [the Chandelier]
Throughout the past year, we have been talking about the progress of our dining room and most importantly our snazzy chandelier (see here and here) and now can finally show off our beauty. Rollin from Antique Lighthouse came by to hand-deliver the restored chandelier and hung the numerous crsytals (which took forever). I'll have to take some more close up photos and will once the dining room is all decorated perfectly but for now, here's a sneak peak.

The Kitchen
While only a minor face-lift, the improvement is well appreciated by me. Not only was one of the original fixtures cracked but the clear glass was a PAIN to keep clean. Normally not such an issue for most households I'd imagine, but with our constant construction and general lack of time leftover for cleaning, the original lights and I did not see eye to eye. So to replace them, I found 1920s-replica milk glass or schoolhouse light fixtures to better match the antique vibe of the house.

The Entry Vestibule & Hallway
After planning for all the lighting fixtures for more than a year, by the time we were ready to put them all up my head was a mess trying to figure out where we had planned for each one to go. A perfect example was the entry vestibule and then main hallway on first floor. We had an original light that had been re-wired (can't say I remember where original lived) and then had three new lights that had been planned for hallways, living room, etc. Needless to say, here's how we ended up placing them.
(Ignore the lack of paint and focus on the pretty light)
Finagling picky door locks is so much easier with light
The Living Room
Just a few weeks back during Gregg's mom's visit, we stopped by a new salvage shop, Philadelphia Salvage, and found a few treasures. The biggest find was this 1920s (approx) chandelier that had just been taken out of it's original home.

The Powder Room
Nothing too dramatic after our 'wowing' wallpaper addition but it's nice to see the room completed (especially when I can't say the same about most other rooms). Now fully complete with all the hardware and lighting. Also, notice the waste basket? It's actually an original fire bucket from the Divine Lorraine Hotel, an unsung architectural beauty that I have been in love with for the past year or so. It's the little things that make me happy!

The Breakfast Room
Focus on the light - because you'll have to stay tuned about the other changes made to this room like the built-in bench, cushions, curtains, mantels and more (oh my!). So for now, here's all you get (they say cliffhangers are best way to get people coming back).

Stay Tuned...
Also covered this weekend but not yet blogged about are lighting fixtures in the entire junior suite (no easy task since there were EIGHT) as well as key progress towards a 99% complete breakfast room.
