Another Look At Colors: Exterior - Post 2

As you just read last post, Gregg and I are now forced to decide exterior paint colors before we can get the ball rolling on our new windows.

So last weekend we took a romantic stroll around the neighborhood (from our part of town down to Penn and back) and took photos of the house color schemes we liked. We looked at window colors, accent colors, porch colors, etc. We tried to pick houses with similar brick color (which is only like 20%) so we could see how the colors would read on our house.

Which ones do you like?
Random Penn Building - mostly Mid Grey/Brown Tone
brown & yellow?
Far away shot of one of my fave porches
Love the teal/red/white combo
Thu's Building!! (well where her Grad Department is located)
More of Criminology Building's dark green
dark rich brown, yumm! Does the monotone work?
more of my fave porch :) Do you like white ceiling?
Dark green porch
More playful color combo for a porch

The dark green & maroon  compliment nicely

Two neighbors with great coordinating colors

Neighbor #2

We liked the combo of the khaki green with brown (but darker brown perhaps?)
LOVE how the details pop with these colors!
Some more brown accents

  1. Of course they're all nicely done. I really like both brown and gray (btw grey is the British spelling) accents, but I LOVE the teal porch too. As for the white porch ceiling, it would depend on the porch's sun exposure and whether the white would cause a glare inside. I would think that the white ceiling might be apt to show all the dirt that easily accumulates outdoors, although it would lighten up the porch space.

Nice way to do your homework first!

    Love,

  2. First - for 'grey' comment - we were viewing Queen Anne Victorian houses so I think British spelling is perfectly relevant ;)

Second - not sure on white ceiling. Gregg doesn't like how stark it is but I enjoy the clean fresh feeling. Sun exposure is mild so won't ever seem blown out but definitely worried about dirt/maintenance aspect.
