Another Look At Colors: Exterior

As I mentioned in this previous post, every time we approach a project we find multiple dependencies on other projects and thus end up doing more than initially planned. A perfect recent example of this is the replacement window project.

Why the Windows?
While chain windows are cute and can be easy to open if maintained, ours our over 120 years old, some permanently screwed shut, others painted shut, and ALL single pane. So to add functionality along with energy efficiency (can you say tax rebate?!!?), we decided to start replacing windows in any room we've redone.

The hit-list:
  • Breakfast room (2)
  • Kitchen (2)
  • 2nd Floor Bathroom (1)
  • Junior Suite (4)
  • Junior Suite Bath (1)
Color Key:
Blue = Already Replaced
Orange = Replacing Now
Green = Replacing Down the Road
Red= No Replacement
What we're not replacing:
  • Living Room (2): they are pocket windows that open up into wall to allow for you to walk out into porch through window. Nifty, right? Also, a PIA to replace/fix... Next steps are to have an expert on architectural historical windows take a look.
  • Dining Room (5): they are leaded glass with gorgeous stained glass rosettes so impossible to replace. We will have same expert come and evaluate options to replace any broken panes and add insulation.
  • Great Room (5): same as Dining Room
Dependency
    Since the windows are seen on the exterior of the house, we have to choose a color that will look nice on our house. Since we are not planning on keeping our current Victorian color schema until past next year when we bite the bullet and repaint, we have to select colors for both frame and aluminum cladding that will coordinate with our future color scheme.

    Problem?
    We don't have a future color scheme planned yet. Stay tuned for how we are going about to get one.
